Beeston: Photo gems chart a year in the life of the Leeds suburb in the early 1960s

Shops and pubs are the main focus of this trip down memory lane charting a year in the life of Beeston in the early 1960s.

The gallery turns back the clock to 1963 and showcases the daily hustle and bustle of a community at work, rest and play. Landmarks, shops, pubs and streets are all featured in this wonderful rewind. The im ages are a mix from West Yorkshire Archive Service and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. There is an alleyway between buildings that leads to Una Mount. On the right is Folly Lane where a woman in a headscarf and overcoat pushes a child's pram across the street. This section of Folly Lane where it meets Beeston Road was later demolished making Folly Lane accessable via Lady Pit Lane on the other side.
